Certifications & Specialized Training
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Certification
DBT offers practical tools for managing emotions, improving relationships, and tolerating distress. In my sessions, I integrate DBT skills to help clients build emotional regulation, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness, especially those who feel overwhelmed by intense emotions or conflict.
Whether it’s a teen learning to pause before reacting or an adult navigating relationship struggles, I use DBT techniques to create structure, safety, and balance between acceptance and change.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Certification
CBT focuses on the powerful connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. In practice, I help clients identify unhelpful thinking patterns, challenge self-criticism, and replace them with more balanced perspectives.
CBT can be especially effective for anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem, empowering clients to develop awareness and take active steps toward change. My goal is to make CBT feel collaborative, never clinical, so that insights lead to real, sustainable shifts in daily life.
Adoption-Competent Counselling Certification (Adoption Council of Ontario)
Adoption often involves layers of grief, identity exploration, and belonging, for adoptees, birth parents, and adoptive families alike. With adoption-competent training, I approach these experiences with sensitivity to attachment, developmental trauma, and family systems.
As an adoptee myself, I come to this space with a deeper understanding of its complexities.
In sessions, I create space for the complexity of adoption stories, helping clients understand how early experiences shape present relationships, while also fostering connection, understanding, and self-compassion across the family system.
Narcissistic Personality Dynamics Certification
This training deepened my understanding of narcissistic traits, emotional abuse, and relational trauma. In practice, it helps me guide clients who have experienced manipulative or invalidating relationships, whether with a parent, partner, or colleague.
Together, we work to rebuild self-worth, set boundaries, and reconnect with their authentic voice, creating a sense of emotional safety and autonomy after patterns of control or criticism.
Gaslighting Awareness & Recovery Certification
Gaslighting often leaves people questioning their memories, emotions, and sense of reality. My certification in this area allows me to help clients recognize manipulation, reclaim their inner truth, and rebuild trust in themselves.
In therapy, I gently support clients in naming what they’ve experienced, validating their emotions, and restoring confidence in their perceptions, so they can move forward with clarity and strength.
Trauma-Informed Practice Certification
This training shapes the foundation of everything I do. Being trauma-informed means prioritizing safety, choice, collaboration, trust, and empowerment in every session.
Whether a client is processing grief, anxiety, relational conflict, or childhood trauma, I move at their pace, never rushing or retraumatizing. My focus is on helping clients feel safe in their bodies and relationships again, while building skills for emotional resilience and grounding.
Non-Suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI) Certification
This specialized training focuses on understanding the functions, triggers, and emotional regulation challenges connected to self-injurious behaviour, without suicidal intent.
In practice, I approach NSSI with curiosity and compassion rather than judgment, helping clients explore the underlying emotions or unmet needs that drive these behaviours.
Together, we develop healthier coping strategies, distress tolerance skills, and self-soothing tools drawn from DBT and trauma-informed frameworks. My priority is to create a sense of emotional safety and empowerment, helping clients learn that their pain can be expressed and managed in ways that don’t cause harm.
Ongoing Development & Approach
Healing is a lifelong process, and so is learning. I continue to participate in clinical supervision, professional development, and evidence-based training to ensure that my practice remains ethical, current, and compassionate.
My therapeutic approach integrates DBT, CBT, EFT, trauma-informed, and client-centred frameworks, allowing each session to be collaborative, grounded, and uniquely tailored to every client’s needs.
